State legislature considering dyslexia early screening bill

IT’S HARD TO SUCCEED IN SCHOOL WHEN YOU CAN’T READ. DYSLEXIC STUDENTS FACE THAT BATTLE EVERY DAY. CAN YOU READ THIS? YOU DYXLEXIA IS CHARACTERIZED BY DIFFICULTY WITH LEARNING TO READ FLUENTLY AND WITH ACCURATE COMPREHENSION DESPITE NORMAL INTELLIGENCE. BUT HELP MAY BE COMING– OUR HAWK HAMMER IS WORKING FOR TONIGHT TO EXPLAIN HOW. A LOT OF FOLKS HAVE HEARD OF DYSLEXIA, A LEARNING DISORDER CHARACTERIZED BY DIFFICULTY READING. BUT RIGHT NOW ITS NOT CONSIDERD A SPECIFIC LEARNING DISABILITY AND ITS NOT SCREENED FOR IN WASHINGTONS STATE PUBLIC SCHOOLS, BUT WITH THIS NEW BILL THAT COULD CHANGE. PARENTS BRING THEIR CHILDREN TO THE CENTER FOR HELP, EITHER AS AN ADDITION TO OR AS A SUBSTITUTE FOR SCHOOL.,. BECAUSE IN CLASSROOMS DYSLEXIC CHILDREN CAN OFTEN GET LEFT BEHIND WITHOUT THE SUPPORT THEY NEED. THAT SUPPORT. NOT CURRENTLY IN PLACE IF YOU ASK THE PROPONENTS OF THIS NEW BILL. THE BILL WOULD REQUIRE SCHOOLS TO SCREEN STUDENTS BETWEEN KINDERGARTEN AND SECOND GRADE FOR DYSLEXIA. AND THEN PROVIDE TEACHERS THE RESOURCES AND TRAINING THEY WOULD NEED TO HELP THEIR DYSLEXIC STUDENTS. WITHOUT HAVING TO PUSH THEM INTO SPECIAL ED. :41 these kids often have average or above average iqs, they are very capable of doing lots of great things THE WAY WENDY SEES IT, LEFT UNTREATED DYSLEXIA BECOMES THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG: STUDENTS CAN FALL BEHIND, BECOME DEPRESSED, DROP OUT, END UP IN JAIL, EVEN COMMIT SUICIDE. THEY HOPE THIS BILL WOULD CHANGE THAT. :18 for the kiddo’s that don’t have the means they continue academic failure and they miss out on the opportunity to reach their fullest potential, we want equality to students. THE BILL IS CURRENTLY BEING REVISED BY THE STATE LEGISLATURE. ITS HOPED THAT IT WILL PASS THIS SESSION. IN SPOKANE HH KXLY
