State assembly to vote on Foxconn tax breaks
The Wisconsin Assembly is debating a multi-billion dollar package of tax breaks for manufacturer Foxconn today . but one of the La Crosse area’s representatives says she’ll be voting *against* the plan. TAKE VO The 3-billion dollar incentives deal was scheduled to be voted on today. Democrats in the Assembly have said while they support more business coming to Wisconsin . they’re worried about the details of the promises being made to Foxconn . and want to make sure the environment and workers are protected. STATE REP. JILL BILLINGS STATEMENT The Foxconn deal would set up the state for half a century worth of debt and roll back environmental regulations. Instead of paying a foreign company with a dubious record of following through on deals, the $3 billion would be better used to fund our schools, fix our roads and invest in home-grown start-up businesses. State Representative Jill Billings of La Crosse sent out a statement this afternoon . saying she’ll be voting *no* on the bill today. Explaining her decision she says quote . ‘The Foxconn deal would set up the state for half a century worth of debt . and roll back environmental regulations. Instead of paying a foreign company with a dubious record of following through on deals . the 3 billion dollars would be better used to fund our schools . fix our roads . and invest in home-grown start-up businesses.’ . end quote. Republican leaders in the assembly are hoping for bipartisan support . but don’t need it to pass the bill.
