Raqqa Women’s Military Council: “We have taken important steps, and in 2020 we will take even more.”
My name is Reema, I’m a member of the Raqqa Military Council, the military court, and head of the Raqqa women’s military office. Important developments have taken place in the organisation of the military council. Women are now taking their place and playing an important role. In particular in the military court where the number of women has reached 50 percent. The military structure has taken a hugely important and worthy step in the position of women, particularly in the Council. In the SDF as well, we have seen the role of women become clear with the YPJ. My name is Jinan Raqqa, I’m a member of the Malbatên şehîdan (for families of martyrs), within the Military Council. In our office we support the families of şehîds and wounded, we mourn with them, and visit them. We find support for them, and at the same time we keep a record as tribute to all our şehîds. Of course, we’ve made more advancements since building up the Military Council in 2019, and now that we’re coordinated with the local municipality, we’re going to develop even further in 2020. My name is Jinda Raqqa, from the Military Council, the office of families of comrades. Or work is to visit the families of fighters, make meetings, and look our for them. We visit the families of all fighters, to discuss with them, and help them get to know the principles of the SDF. My name is Iman Mohamed, from the management of the military council of YPJ. Since we organised the Military Council here on the 9/6/2019 women have been creating a new structure. Not just in the military camp, there is a civil side too. On the military side, women have seen education in military training, politics and ideology, whatever is needed for their progression. They’ve taken the front and full responsibility. At the end of 2019 and the start of 2020, we wish success to our comrades in upcoming tests in this serious and important time. We will follow in the footsteps of our şehîds and we intend to make their memories proud.
