North Korea likely to be focus of next week’s diplomatic and defense dialogue in Washington

Top officials from the United States and China
are set for a high-profile diplomatic and defense dialogue in Washington next week. The U.S. State Department says the meeting,
set for June 21st, aims to expand areas of cooperation while narrowing differences on
key issues. While the specific agenda has not been revealed,
AFP reports that North Korea is likely to be front and center. U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and
Secretary of Defense James Mattis will host Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi and General
Fang Fenghui , Chief of the People’s Liberation Army’s Joint Staff Department, along with
other Chinese officials. The meeting comes as Presidents Trump and
Xi agreed to hold the talks during their first summit in April.
