Instant Pot Country Style Ribs


Hi folks it’s Mike, with Kitchen Tips Online, with another Instant Pot Recipe for you, country style pork ribs. Aand believe it or not, pork ribs cooked in an electric pressure cooker turn out pretty good. But let’s not kid ourselves here, ribs that are smoking a smoker for four to five hours, and have been brining overnight, and you use a rub and all that stuff is the better way to go. But this recipe is designed for folks who don’t have the time, the ability, or the inclination to do it that way. And the good news is, it’s a pretty good alternative. Now we’re going to show you on this video how to take frozen country-style ribs as well as fresh ribs and cook them in your Instant Pot. I want to let you know that we’re going to be using liquid smoke in this recipe, and when you use liquid smoke in your Instant Pot Recipe, if you don’t take precautions, sometimes the next thing you cook kind of has a smoky flavor to it. Well we’re going to show you in this video how to prevent that. Well let’s get started. To begin we will add 1 cup of water to the pot. Next we will add 1 cup of barbecue sauce, any brand, whatever you like. Next we will add 2 tablespoons of brown sugar. 1 tablespoon of onion powder, and 1 tablespoon of garlic salt. Next we will add 2 tablespoons of the liquid smoke. Now that may seem like a lot, but it’s not. And finally we’re going to add 1 teaspoon of our favorite hot sauce. Now we can stir everything up. Now notice that the country ribs that we are using are very thick. We’ve got these from sam’s club. If possible you don’t want to stack them on top of each other. Now close the lid and confirm that the vent lever is closed. Okay since our ribs are not frozen, we can set the timer on manual for 35 minutes. When the time is up, manually release the pressure. Now let’s see what these delicious barbecue ribs look like. You can clearly see they are completely cooked, but the good news is they’re not falling apart. So we will be able to take them and put them under the broiler or on the grill. But before we do that let me have a taste. (yummy sound) Now make sure that you don’t over country-style rib, because if you do, they will be completely falling apart and you won’t be able to put them under the broiler or on the grill, which really does enhance the flavor and the presentation. But have no fear, if you don’t want to put them on the grill, or under the broiler, you will be completely satisfied with the flavor and the texture right out of the pressure cooker. Now when you bring your country ribs home from the store they’re going to be packaged like this. Now if you put this package in the freezer you will never get the ribs separated to take advantage of being able to cook them frozen in the pressure cooker. What you need to do is divide the packages up into Ziploc bags and spread the ribs out so that they can freeze along side each other, not on top of each other. Now obviously you can use whatever kind of sauce you want, but for the frozen recipe, we are just going to use 1 cup of water, 1 cup of barbecue sauce, and 2 tablespoons of the liquid smoke. Mix everything together and then add your frozen ribs. And despite our best efforts, a couple of the ribs froze together. That’s not a big deal, we’ll show you what to do to fix that. Put your ribs in the pot, seal the lid, and confirm that the lever is not in the vent position. For frozen ribs, you need to set the timer to manual for 45 minutes. Now if you have to stack your ribs like we did no big deal. Just wait about 15 minutes. Then put a cloth towel over the vent and swirl the pot so that the ribs get distributed equally. When the time is up, remove the ribs and lay them in a bed of barbecue sauce. Now obviously you can put them on the grill or under the broiler but I assure you right out of the pressure cooker they are absolutely delicious. And the next time you go to use it, maybe you’re making chicken and all of a sudden it has a smoky flavor to it. Well to prevent that, all you have to do is remove this lever on the top here, take this cover off in here if you want, and put it in your dishwasher on the top rack with the rest of your dishes. Now make sure that you don’t put it on the bottom rack because a lot of dishwashers today still have electric elements in there and it could melt it or damage it.   1. WoW, I did use Sweet Baby Rays Sweet and Spicey and instead of hot sauce I used chipotle chili powder. Ribs in less than a hour they will think you sweated all day over the grill. Thanks for the killer recipe.
