DU Alum, Michelle Kwan Talks Dreams and Accomplishments | University of Denver (2018)

– What first drew me to the University of
Denver was all of the available courses, ranging from Political Science, to International Relations,
to Languages. There are so many defining moments that was
so special to me at my time at DU. Being able to sit down one-on-one with your
professors and have this very open discussion. I think a lot of universities, you don’t have
that access. The best advice that I got was to always be
curious, always learn, and you don’t have to be one thing. You could be many things. I think it’s important to know that you could
do a lot of things, you can show where yes, I’m interested in this, but you can also be
creative, be flexible, and go where your passions may take you. I’ll never forget, I was given this Olympic
sticker, and I framed it ’cause it was something I cherished and wanted to keep just perfect. So I framed it, put it above my bed, and it
was the first thing I saw every morning and last thing I saw when I went to bed, just
dreaming of one day making it to the Olympics. And then fast forward seven years later, I
make it, and I remember skating over the Olympic rings and tears just coming down my face,
and then my coach was like, “Michelle, come back. “Wake up!” It’s like kind of that you have things on
your bucket list, but it’s like you need to work hard, and that’s why it’s so important,
whatever you do, do it with passion, and you can never go wrong.
