CMS Pathways Recruitment Video

My name is Zehra. I have a great interest
in working with our federal health programs, which is why I applied to the
CMS Pathways Program. I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. My family is very
important to me. They have really shaped my career and
educational goals. Originally they are from India. When my family immigrated to
the United States, they tried to, sort of, navigate the health care system as a
unit, and seeing that really made me realize how complex the health care
system is and made me very intrigued to work with it.
As a high school student I volunteered at a community clinic, and I was able to
see physician and patients interact in a community setting. The aspect of the
clinic that really drew me was how it serviced the underserved populations, and
that really inspired me to do that on a larger scale in health policy. Immediately when I started my internship,
everyone was so welcoming. My colleagues here share my passion for public
service. Everyone here wants to help people, and really wants to make the world a better place, and that’s why they’re here. Within the first ten months
of starting my career with CMS I’ve been able to get my hands on several projects
of great substance for the American people. I was able to work closely with a proposed
change to Medicare policy, specifically dealing with how hospitals
are getting paid. I get to work with data to inform policy. I get to work with an
amazing team of people who are really knowledgeable, really interesting, and
it’s just a lot of fun to come to work every day. The experience when you walk in is
just out of this world. I had no idea what to expect but I was immediately impressed. The Pathways program is a great way to enter
federal service. I was so excited when I found out about the opportunity at CMS. It’s because I just got the job of my dreams. The Pathways internship led me to
accept a full-time offer and, what is really cool, it is at CMS Dallas Regional
Office, which is also my hometown. My whole internship experience here just,
sort of, made me realize the amount of impact I could have as a CMS employee,
and being able to continue on with that makes me very excited for my future and
also because I’m able to give back to my community, which is what I’ve always been
wanting to do.
