Shocking Upset Women’s Fourth Round 2012 Australian Open: Ekaterina Makarova Upsets Serena Williams 6-2 6-3!!!

Serena Williams was eliminated from the 2012 Australian Open in the fourth round by an unknown Russian woman Ekaterina Makarova. Makarova dismissed Serena Williams 6-2 6-3. No offense to Makarova but Serena played poorly she double faulted seven times in the match. Serena appeared slow, lethargic, and not intense as she usually is in grand slams. Serena made over thirty seven unforced errors numerous errors on her forehand side. Makraova didn’t do anything special she just kept the ball in the court and watched Serena miss.

Serena is thirty years old and I question her motivation to the game. Earlier this year in an interview with an Australian newspaper Serena said she doesn’t “love tennis anymore.” So if Serena doesn’t love tennis anymore she should retire and move on. Serena’s already made her mark in women’s tennis made millions of dollars and won thirteen grand slam titles.  I think 2012 will be the last full year Serena competes on the WTA Tour. The good thing for Serena is  unlike some tennis pros like Jennifer Capriati she has a balanced life off the tennis court. I wish Serena well but if she continues to put in listless performances like this one time to quit and move on.
